Year 1 & 2

Prep to Year 2

In the early years, the objective of homework should be to practise and consolidate the concepts that have been introduced during class time.

Homework will consist of: 

  • reading activities to, with, or by parents/carer or older siblings (suggested timing of 10-15 minutes each night)

  • Literacy Goal practise, which may consist of correct letter formation, spelling of focus words and writing simple sentences (suggested timing of 10 minutes, twice a week)

  • Maths Fluency Goal practise, which will focus on building speed, accuracy and confidence with key number skills (suggested timing of 10 minutes, twice a week)
     

Students are generally not expected to complete more than 30 minutes of homework per day.

Year 3 to Year 6

In the upper year levels, the objective of homework is to build on the concepts of self-discipline, responsibility and initiative to prepare students for secondary school. 

Homework will consist of: 

  • independent reading on a daily basis (suggested timing of 20 minutes each night)

  • assigned tasks on the Essential Assessment platform My Literacy  (suggested timing of 10 minutes, twice a week)

  • assigned tasks on the Essential Assessment platform My Numeracy  (suggested timing of 10 minutes, twice a week)


Students are generally not expected to spend more than 40 minutes per day on homework. It is acceptable for teachers to assign unfinished classroom activities as additional homework tasks.
